A famous philosopher (Schopenhauer) likened relationships to porcupines in the snow. We want to be closer for the warmth but sometimes things get prickly! At Nudge, we understand the intricate dynamics that make up family and couple relationships.
These relationships, while often a source of support and comfort, can sometimes occasion significant stress and conflict.
Our approach to family and couples therapy is informed by decades of experience in couple and family social systems and a commitment to providing effective, ‘blame free’, empathetic interventions to grow the most important thing in our lives, our relationships.
Dr Justin Harrison, as over two decades of experience, leads our Couple and Family counselling services with a keen focus on resolving conflicts and enhancing relationships within families. His expertise is complemented by Dr Melissa Harrison, who brings valuable experience in Court Ordered Family Therapy, ensuring that our interventions are not only therapeutic but also fulfil legal requirements when necessary.
Raising kids is about the most important thing we will ever do. While it can be stressful and tiring, it is a lot easier to enjoy parenting when we are more effective in guiding our children and managing difficult behaviours.
Behavioural Family Interventions like the Positive Parenting Program remain a cornerstone of our support services for families, particularly those navigating the challenges of raising children with disabilities. Dr Justin Harrison, an accredited provider of the Stepping Stones Triple P Programs, offers individual (Level 4) and group (Level 3) Family Behavioural Interventions. These programs are built on evidence based behavioural and social learning principles, assisting families to manage behavioural and developmental challenges while building attachment and security within families.
The Stepping Stones Triple P (Level 4) program is particularly beneficial for families facing significant difficulties. It involves around eight private consultations, each lasting between around one hour. During these sessions, parents are equipped with a broad range of problem-solving skills, aimed at fostering a nurturing and supportive family environment. This program not only helps parents ‘be on the same page’ with parenting strategies but also enhances their engagement with the community, strengthens family relationships, and promotes the development of new skills in their children.
If your family life feels overwhelming, consider this your Nudge towards better days.
While the Nudge Group do not prescribe, or encourage the illicit use of, psychedelic compounds we offer supportive and non-judgmental integration therapy in a harm minimisation framework for people who have experienced non-ordinary conscious states. Sound psychological integration is central to therapies involving non-ordinary conscious states, even in modalities that do not involve the use of psychedelic substances (such as deep meditation and/or holotropic breathing). This therapeutic approach focuses on helping individuals assimilate the profound experiences and insights gained these experiences.
The goal of integration therapy in this context is to help individuals safely and meaningfully incorporate the experiences into their lives, ‘lengthening the view’ and enhancing personal growth and well-being. This is particularly important as such experiences can often be intense and at times difficult, prompting significant emotional reactions and cognitive re-organisation. Integration involves a series of therapeutic strategies that guide the individual in exploring, understanding, and reflecting on their experience to enhance client growth and safety.
Our approach is informed by patient-centered and culturally sensitive practices in all therapeutic settings. By carefully navigating the integration process, therapists can help you achieve a greater sense of clarity and alignment in your life; essential for long-term psychological resilience and health.
